About HealthLumen:
HealthLumen develops microsimulation-based modelling software, used to generate evidence to quantify the future impact of interventions on chronic diseases when scaled across the population. Such interventions include policy, prevention, screening, and treatment interventions, with a focus on predicting the impact of health behaviours on the future burden of over 20 noncommunicable disease and related costs, across 80 countries.

HealthLumen works in both the public sector and also in the private sector, with global corporations in pharmaceutical, life sciences and insurance, where the value proposition can be applied in many areas. Our modelling can help evaluate the impact (clinical, social and economic), of prevention strategies or treatments before expensive, time-consuming real-world implementation.

We are now expanding our team to include a Lead Epidemiologist. The candidate should have the skills as outlined below.

Primary responsibilities:
• Provide scientific and methodological expertise to teams and clients on various aspects of study and model design to address research questions
• Epidemiological research using established methods and techniques
• Provide methodological insights and senior review in support of various study documents
• Writing of study protocols, statistical analysis plans and study reports
• Development of new disease model concepts and related co-morbidities
• Managing up to 4 other staff members or external consultants, both at the project level and as a line manager
• Communicate regularly with your line manager and team regarding your progress
• Work with stakeholders to ensure to understand analysis and outputs needs being the link between user need and technical development.
• Work closely with colleagues to deliver HealthLumen’s strategy and new software platform
• Lead operational efficiencies of workflows, including writing of internal guidance documents (e.g. quality management documents)
• Work closely with our technical team to develop R automation tools and infographics
• Supporting new business development via proposal writing and meeting attendance
• Develop abstracts, manuscripts and / or presentations to conferences for projects
• Additional tasks commensurate with your skillset.

Skills:
• 4+ years experience of working in the field of epidemiology, with knowledge of non-communicable disease epidemiology
• Experience of managing a team
• Working knowledge of statistical programs such as Stata, R, Python
• Excellent analytical skills
• Understanding, and ability to use, a range of research methods
• Data cleaning, management and manipulation skills
• Knowledge and use of infographic software
• Knowledge of public health areas
• Understanding of statistical methods
• Stakeholder management

Desirable skills/experience:
• Understanding of epidemiological methods
• Knowledge of C++ coding
• Expert knowledge of statistical programs such as Stata, R, Python

Qualifications:
• PhD in epidemiology, public health or related field
• MSc in epidemiology, public health plus sufficient experience relevant to this role

Personal qualities:
• Self-motivated and able to work by initiative
• Well organised
• Flexibility
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness work in a multi-disciplinary team
• Desire to be part of a small but growing business

Working practices:
This role is based in London. However, we are will consider candidates who wish to work remotely but who are willing to attend regular meetings for 2-3 days a month in London.

• Support quality assurance of data inputs and outputs
• Support new business development via proposal writing and attending meetings
• Develop abstracts, manuscripts and / or presentations to conferences for projects
• Communicate regularly with your line manager and team regarding your progress
• Additional tasks commensurate with your skillset.

Skills:
• Expert working knowledge in the field of epidemiology
• Working knowledge of statistical programs such as Stata, R
• Excellent analytical skills
• Understanding, and ability to use, a range of research methods
• Data cleaning, management and manipulation skills
• Knowledge of public health areas
• Stakeholder management

• Knowledge and use of data visualisation software
• Knowledge of computer programming in languages such as C++, Python
• Knowledge of non-communicable disease epidemiology
